Gore-Tex Month continues at PK Safety with a new product featuring this innovative, versatile outdoor fabric. We’ve already shown how you can keep your feet dry and protected with Gore-Tex Hurricane boots, now we’ll take a look at what Gore-Tex can offer when it comes to trousers.[more]
For the month of November, we’ve decided to focus on Gore-Tex products. We seem to get asked a lot about why the Gore-Tex Hurricane boot is so superior to other options when you’re looking to keep dry.
For the first week of ‘Gore-Tex’ month, we’re taking a look at the Hurricane boot. This is by far one of the most popular choices by many of our customers and it’s easy to see why.
Now, unless you’re looking to swim the Amazon River or even the channel (we’d recommend a good wetsuit along with flippers for this task), you’d be hard pushed to find a better boot for wet conditions. The Hurricane boot features water repellent full grain leather and a Gore-Tex waterproof lining.
What does this mean?
Fullgrain leather is made from the strongest part of the animal hide and therefore makes the most durable and most water-resistant form of leather. The water repellent nature of this boot allows water to stay out and not permeate the lining. Like other leathers, it can also be treated with a wax or spray to further improve its waterproof capabilities in very wet conditions over time.
Another incredible feature of the lining is that it’s breathable, basically meaning that your feet can stay dry and fresh without the need to change socks every hour (n.b we have not carried out any smelly feet tests so please feel free to do so at your own risk).
The techy stuff for the Hurricane Gore-Tex Boot
So how does Gore-Tex work? As you can see from the diagram below, the outer material repells rain/snow whilst still being able to dispell sweat from inside the boot. Clever stuff ey?
The Hurricane Gore-Tex Boot Features
- Water repellent full grain leather upper.
- PU/Nitrile sole heat resistant to 300 degrees (1 minute contact).
- Steel toecap
- Non metallic APT midsole plate.
- GORE-TEX HPR lining
- Conforms to EN ISO 20345
So if you’re looking for a top performing waterproof and breathable boot, you’ve stumbled upon the right place. Feel free to get in touch with one of our team to go over the finer detail (and the smelly feet test if you wish).
