Using RPB Supplied Air System in the Manufacturing Sector

Advanced Furniture is a leading British manufacturer of education and contract furniture.  Based in Ebbw Vale, South Wales their operational capability encompasses the complete manufacturing process from R&D to upholstery and final assembly.  They pride themselves on product quality and efficiency of service.

PK Safety is a long-standing supplier of PPE, clothing and janitorial supplies to Advanced Furniture and was the first port of call when Rob Morgan (Operations Director) wanted to evaluate the respiratory protective equipment (RPE) they were using.

After an initial discussion PK Safety arranged a technical audit of Advanced Furniture’s processes.  The audit was carried out by Graham Hubbard (Advanced Furniture’s dedicated Account Manager) and Obe Nunn (PK Safety’s Technical Advisor).  During the audit Graham and Obe identified the possibility of upgrading Advanced existing supplied air respiratory system and extending its use to departments/operatives that were using negative pressure half face masks.

This possibility was suggested to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Improve the comfort for operatives already using a supplied air RPE product.
  • Increase the level of protection given to staff against commonly used products in the furniture trade (including adhesives, 2-pack isocyanate mixes and powder-based coatings).
  • Standardise the equipment used in order to achieve cost savings on spares/consumables and simplify PPE training for the users.

PK Safety proposed the use of the RPB Safety supplied air system with their integrated T-Link headtop.  Chosen for its comfort, durability and assured performance in a variety of workplaces.

Following the initial proposal by Graham and Obe, Advanced Furniture assessed the viability through a site trial.  The initial roll-out of this trial was overseen by Obe and a representative from the manufacturer of the equipment (RPB Safety) to ensure that the kit was correctly installed and worn/used.

Once Rob decided to go ahead with the system proposed and trialled PK Safety were able to support by ordering stock for a staged roll-out of the equipment as well as supplementing their stocks of consumables and spares to ensure adequate support could be provided on and ongoing basis.
