The main functions that the BSIF execute are influencing legislation and providing industry with reliable and up-to-date information on workplace safety issues and how to remain compliant in a changing and developing sector.

It’s the second function that provides the most value to organisations and businesses throughout the UK.

They help users, consumers and managers to make the best decision for the ongoing safety of workers throughout the company.

This is particularly apparent in the selection of a safety supplier.

The BSIF has set up a thorough accreditation scheme called the Registered Safety Supplier Scheme (RSSS).

In order to be accredited under this scheme a supplier must undergo an annual audit run by employees of the BSIF to ensure that they are fully compliant under the PPE Regulations 2016.  They must also submit products from their catalogue for re-testing by a UKCA accredited testing house to ensure they meet the claimed protection levels. 

Buyers of safety equipment can use the RSSS accreditation as an indication that the suppliers they are using are both compliant and knowledgeable.  It provides an extra layer of assurance to companies seeking to procure and use the best equipment.
